Communications Manager
Position Summary: The Communications Manager is responsible for developing and executing comprehensive communication strategies, managing media relations, and creating compelling content across various platforms. The Communications Manager also oversees the Tribe's online presence, ensuring accurate and timely information dissemination. In addition to crisis communication preparedness, this role involves facilitating internal communication, coordinating events, and engaging with Tribal members and the community.
Roles and Responsibilities: • Create and execute comprehensive communication plans to effectively convey the Tribe's message to various stakeholders, including tribal members, community partners, media, and the general public. • Align communication strategies with the Tribe’s overall goals and objectives. • Act as the primary point of contact for media inquiries, interview requests, and press releases. • Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with local, regional, and national media outlets. • Generate high-quality content for various platforms, including press releases, newsletters, social media, websites, and other communication channels. • Ensure consistency in messaging and branding across all communication materials. • Manage and maintain the Tribe's social media accounts, including content creation, scheduling, and monitoring engagement. • Update and optimize the Tribe's website to provide accurate and timely information. • Develop and implement crisis communication plans to address potential challenges or issues. • Respond promptly to any communications-related emergencies and provide accurate information to relevant parties. • Facilitate effective internal communication among Tribal departments and leadership to ensure consistent messaging and alignment with organizational objectives. • Coordinate and promote Tribal events, meetings, and initiatives through various communication channels. • Engage with Tribal members and the local community to gather feedback, address concerns, and build positive relationships. • Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills, Abilities, and Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field. • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in communications, public relations, or a related field. • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to tailor messages for diverse audiences. • Strong understanding of media relations, including experience in managing media inquiries and relationships. • Proficiency in social media platforms, content management systems, and other relevant communication tools. • Knowledge of Tribal communities, cultural sensitivity, and understanding of Tribal issues is preferred. • Crisis communication preparedness experience is highly desirable. • Possession of a valid driver’s license, transportation, and insurance are required. • Must pass a background security check prior to employment. • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and random drug tests as requested throughout employment. • Must be able to work evening hours and weekends on occasion.
